Still of Trent Reznor being interviewed on Digg

Trent Reznor is nothing short of brilliant.  Whether or not you like NIN, you have to give its creator credit.  He’s extremely intelligent and passionate about his work, and always trying to do the best thing for music itself rather than the music industry.

In this interview with Digg, Reznor elaborates on some pretty compelling topics through his responses to user voted questions. Particularly interesting is his perspective on how to “make it” as a new artist with today’s technology, his past exploits with NIN’s album distribution (and its failures), and what projects he’s currently working on.  Consistently ahead of the curve, I always feel like Reznor’s biggest downfall is his forward thinking, as his great ideas are often met with an audience that is simply not ready for it.  Despite these failures of sorts, Reznor doesn’t compromise on his belief or stop expecting more from people, and continues to push things forward, and I think that people should really thank him for that.  It’s a far cry from the manufactured music and musicians we see today.

The interview is a great look at a creative mind that isn’t afraid to discuss opinions or failures, intensely meticulous and caring for his craft, and open to share with others to help them learn and achieve their own goals.  Even if you could care less for his music, it’s interesting to hear what he has to say in this interview.
